MegaUpload Saga Nears Conclusion: Dotcom Wins Back Some AssetsAs the case against Kim “Kim Dotcom” Schmitz collapses, the former cyberlocker tycoon has won back some of his assets in court that were seized in a January raid.

Mr. Schmitz will have nearly $1 million in cash and cars returned to him that had been confiscated after he was arrested, including his Mercedes-Benz G55AMG worth $204,000 complete with the vanity plate “POLICE.”

Mr. Schmitz will be allowed $20,000 monthly living allowance that comes from the interest paid on a $10 million investment he made in New Zealand government bonds. His wife, Mona, will have her medical expenses covered and will be allowed to use the family-owned Toyota Vellfire.

However, according to Auckland Now, $6 million of luxury cars – eight of which are Mercedes-Benzs – will remained confiscated by New Zealand authorities. Reportedly, these vehicles have vanity plates that range from GOOD to EVIL, GOD, STONED, HACKER and MAFIA.

Reportedly, Mr. Schmitz will use his new found freedoms to record a dance album and pay his legal fees.

While Mr. Schmitz has been enjoying things shifting in his favor of late, he does find himself now stuck in the middle of a brewing political scandal.

Mr. Schmitz told the New Zealand Herald that he had made a $50,000 donation to current Minister for Small Business and Regulatory reform John Banks in 2010, during his failed campaign for Auckland’s mayoralty. Mr. Schmitz alleges that Mr. Banks requested him to make the donation in two installments of $25,000 so it could remain anonymous as per New Zealand campaign finance laws.

The President of Mr. Banks’ party, ACT, denies Mr. Schmitz’s allegations and says that Mr. Schmitz was the one who suggested them in the first place.

If these allegations hold true, Mr. Banks would likely have to vacate his seat and may face jail time.
