Having trouble with dropped framerates on your 30-inch monitor? That's not likely to be an issue with the Asus ROG Ares II, a limited edition graphics card that muscles through games with TWO Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition GPUs and 6GB of GDDR5 memory. That's a metric ton of pixel pushing power, and remarkably, the Ares II is a dual-slot graphics card, so it doesn't take up any more space than a high-end single-GPU card.

Asus says it plans to produce just 1,000 units of the Ares II. It will ship in a special ROG-themed case, with each card featuring a laser-etched serial number on the aluminum backplate, in case you're into such fancy details.

As for the actual hardware, the Ares II is designed with Asus' DIGI+ digital voltage regulation technology for precise power and better stability, particularly when overclocking, high quality chokes and MOSFETS, and a 20-phase Super Alloy Power architecture, Asus says.

Asus attaches a custom cooler that uses both liquid and air cooling. The hybrid cooler consists of a closed-cycle liquid system with dual 120mm fans and a radiator block that Asus says will fit in most cases.

Powering the dual-GPU graphics card requires three 8-pin power cables.

No word yet on when the ROG Ares II will launch or how much it will cost, but we're thinking the MSRP will be in the vicinity of "arm and leg."
