Samsung under attack now for copying ‘Apple dock’

Samsung are reeling. The case against them in America has hit the company hard. While such a huge corporation can almost shrug off the $1 billion in damages, the ramifications for Google are much deeper and many analysts are now questioning the strength of the Android operating system down the line. Many companies are measuring a move to Microsoft for their upcoming tablet designs – free from the wrath of Apple.

Gizmondo writer Jesus Diaz wrote an article yesterday which has caused quite a stir in the industry. It was called “Samsung Is Copying Apple’s Dock In Their Win 8 Machines Too: Will They Ever Learn?”

In the article, Diaz is raising some user interface concerns and questioning ‘lazy idiots’ who appear to just copy Apple.

He said “I don’t know if Samsung is now just taunting Apple or if their user interface “designers” are the same lazy idiots who copied the iPhone icons. In any case, this is getting hilarious. Or pathetic. Or disgusting. Or all of the above. Check out the S-Launcher that will be included in all their Windows 8 machines.

Does it look familiar to you?

Yes, it looks like Apple’s own OS X dock, down to the glassy pseudo-3D tray that shows the reflection of the icons placed on it.”

Samsung explained the use of their new docking system “And of course, the S Launcher is also a launcher. Simply drag apps or files to it for easy access, tossing them off when you don’t want them anymore. Nothing groundbreaking in that, but it doesn’t hurt, either, and the icons are bigger than in the Windows taskbar.”

Surely Apple don’t have the trademark to the Dock though?

He says “But “oh wait,” some misinformed imbecile will say, “docks are not new! Samsung can sure go ahead and copy it all—the functionality, look and feel of Apple’s dock! After all, you can’t patent trays! Amirite?”"

Actually it is patented by Apple. It is credited to Bas Ording, Donald Lindsay and Steve Jobs.

Are Samsung copying Apple again? Will Apple decide to go after them again when Windows 8 is released? Will the drama ever end!
