Samsung win Japan patent case against Apple

August 31st, 2012 -Yong Lei

Samsung may have been hit hard by the American courts however a Tokyo court ruled today that they did not violate an Apple Inc patent which involves ‘syncing mobile computers and devices’.

Samsung needed this victory after an American court is forcing them to pay Apple over $1 billion in damages. Samsung lost billions more as their company value dropped after this ruling. Apple are now seeking an injunction on the sale of eight Samsung devices in the US.

Toyko District Court Judge Tamotsu Shoji rejected Apple’s suit and said that Samsung’s product did not infringe on the Apple patents.

Samsung said in a statement following the Toyko verdict “We welcome the court’s decision, which confirmed our long-held position that our products do not infringe Apple’s intellectual property.”

Samsung shares rose 0.7 percent in Seoul after the ruling.

An important win for Samsung.
