As recent speculation has been developing around Vivendi engaging in the process of possibly selling off Activision Blizzard. We have now received information (http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/07/09/us-vivendi-activision-sale-idUSBRE8650SZ20120709) that tells us a few possible companies that may intend to buy Activision Blizzard.
According to Reuters (http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/07/09/us-vivendi-activision-sale-idUSBRE8650SZ20120709), it has been revealed that Vivendi has been taking pitches from a few different major firms, including those of Microsoft, Time Warner, and the China-based Corporation, Tencent. As you may recall, Tencent is the company that is working with Activision to bring the newly announced free-to-play Call of Duty Online title conclusively to China.
With the purchase of Activision Blizzard, the buyers will be acquiring two major franchises that lie on different ends of the spectrum. They will be purchasing the Call of Duty franchise, which is a massively popular FPS title, that seemingly leans toward console audience. Then, you have the World of Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo franchises, which rely solely on the RPG and RTS audiences on the PC platform.
As for Microsoft, with a purchase such as this they will be able to capture major gaming franchises for both console and PC. Obviously, Microsoft is one of the few companies that can easily make the purchase if they choose that it fits their economic and development plans. This purchase could bring the Call of Duty franchise exclusively to the Xbox brand and Blizzard titles to the Games For Windows Live brand, bringing a massive advantage in their market. But, this completely depends on where the goals are and what they intend to do in the future.
