tribes ascend logo 2501 Its only a closed beta and Tribes Ascend is banning cheaters alreadyGames with an online multiplayer focus can’t tolerate cheaters but we didn’t expect the banhammer to be brought down during a closed beta test of Tribes Ascend already. Yet, that’s just what Hi-Rez Studios did in the past week.
An aimbot hack showed up in the Tribes Ascend beta a little more than a week ago with the hack itself being sold online. The hack went fairly widespread for a few days before Hi-Rez began the bannings.
“We’ve already banned scores of cheaters, nearly all through automatic detection,” Hi-Rez’s Stew Chisam revealed on the Tribes Ascend forums Saturday. “We continue to strengthen and improve our anti-cheat mechanisms each week — and utlize a variety of techniques, not just one, to help identify and eliminate cheaters.”
Chisam went on to say that the anti-cheat tools used for Tribes Ascend will be state of the art and “on par” with other shooters. Additionally, Hi-Rez is adding additional features in the beta such as a spectator mode, demo mode, votekick and a new “cheat reporting” feature to nail down cheaters and ban them.
Since Tribes Ascend is a free-to-play game with revenue coming in through the purchase of booster packs and different loadouts, Hi-Rez will obviously have to stay on top of any cheats that would potentially ruin the game for many and cause them to leave.
Tribes Ascend is currently in closed beta testing and will open up to everyone in the next couple of months. It will officially release early in 2012.
