Activision have been releasing new Call of Duty games every year for quite some time now. According to Battlefield 3 producer Patrick Liu, that will not become the case with the Battlefield franchise.
“We don’t have any plans to make Battlefield an annual title – we want to make it ourselves, we don’t want anyone else doing it! And no studio can make an annual franchise by themselves – well, the sports titles can but they’re a very different breed.” – Battlefield producer Patrick Liu
It’s admirable that the studio wants to prevent annual releases in order to preserve quality. Activision only manage to pump out a new Call of Duty every year because they have multiple developers on the job, which is something DICE don’t want to do.
